1. Data We Collect

To provide the boop! experience, we collect only the minimum data necessary:

  • Account Identifiers: Your phone number (for authentication) and a unique "Boop ID" used for connections.
  • Profile Information: Your nickname and an optional profile image. Note: Profile images are uploaded to our secure storage integration to facilitate functionality and are not part of a public feed.
  • Interaction Data: We store your connection list (who you've invited or accepted) and a history of "boops" sent and received.
  • Device Tokens: A Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token is used to deliver push notifications.
  • App Permissions: The app may request access to your **Camera** (to scan connection QR codes) and **Photo Library** (to upload a profile image).

2. Security & Encryption

All data collected by boop! is **encrypted in transit** using TLS/SSL protocols via the Google Firebase SDK. Your personal information, including phone numbers and images, is stored securely on Google Cloud servers with industry-standard protection. We also implement internal reporting and blocking features to prevent abuse and ensure a safe environment for all users.

3. How We Use and Share Your Data

Your data is used strictly for the following functional purposes:

  • Facilitating secure login and account management.
  • Displaying your profile image and nickname only to friends you have explicitly accepted as connections.
  • Delivering boops and notifications between connected users.

We do not sell your personal data. Your profile image is strictly for user identification within the app and is restricted from public access by non-authenticated users.

4. Third-Party Services

boop! leverages Google Firebase for authentication, database (Firestore), and storage. These services are governed by Google's privacy policies.

5. Account Deletion & Data Retention

You have full control over your data. You may delete your account at any time via the "Delete Account" option in the app settings. Alternatively, if you no longer have access to the app, you can submit a manual deletion request via our Account Deletion Request Page. This action will permanently remove your profile, nickname, phone number, and any uploaded images from our active databases.

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

boop! is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information and terminate the child's account.

7. Your GDPR Rights

If you are located in the European Union, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • Right of Access: You can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: You can update your profile information in the app at any time.
  • Right to Erasure: You can delete your account and all associated data.
  • Right to Portability: You can request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

8. Behavior & Safety

Rules regarding user conduct, acceptable use, and our zero-tolerance policy for illegal content are detailed in our Terms of Service. We encourage all users to use the reporting tools within the app to help maintain a safe community.
